2010-06-22
Bribri´s culture is rich in terms of traditional histories orally transmitted. During the project 23-P2-07, executed in Costa Rica by Ambio, it was identified the need of promoting events to incentive the transferring of these histories from elders to young people in order to avoid the lost of these traditions and to make young people able of sharing these histories with tourists and other persons interested in the indigenous culture.
In June 19th, Ambio organized an event to begin with this sharing process. In this activity participated 16 indigenous from Kéköldi community, 12 women and 4 men. They exchanged different stories related to Sibö (God), the earth and diverse creatures of the nature; also, they sang and danced traditional ceremonies. In addition, the activity was filmed with two objectives: 1. Creating a record that could be used by young people to study and remember the histories. 2. To provide the community with a cultural product that could be shared with the tourists who visit the site.
At the end of the event the participants were satisfied with the results and agreed in continuing the execution of similar activities.
