Bhutan Biodiversity Portal The Biodiversity Portal was developed with the objective to promote:

1. Education and awareness on biological diversity of Bhutan and its importance.
2. Bring relevant published information into the public domain.
3. Encourage botanical and eco tourism
4. Minimize duplication of biodiversity information (collection and generation)

The Biodiversity Portal was developed in collaboration with the National Institute of Biodiversity (INBio), Costa Rica. The project was supported by the Program for South-South Cooperation funded by the government of the Netherlands.

Currently the portal has following species level information and publications:

A: Species information

1. The Flora of Bhutan – 9 volumes.
2. The Plant Genetic Resources of Bhutan.
3. The Animal Genetic resources of Bhutan.
4. The Mammals of Bhutan.

B: Publications

1. The Biodiversity Action Plan of Bhutan – 2009.
2. The Crop Genetic resources of Bhutan.
3. The Livestock Genetic Resources of Bhutan.

The portal will be dynamic and will be manned by the technical staff of NBC. New available information will be uploaded as and when available. NBC will rely on various biodiversity stakeholders in the country to get information specific to their organization.

The Biodiversity Portal is on test run and scientific staffs of the center are reviewing the uploaded information. Data input was carried by temporary recruits and foresee mistakes in the uploaded information. Once the review is complete, NBC will issue official notification about the Biodiversity Portal to wider public.
